Emergence

Moth
encased
in bowels of cocoon
impatiently stirs...

Wings
fragile, unformed,
and translucent
are yet unable to carry
this burden
beyond cracked housing
crumbling womb

Flutter frantic
all in vain
tapping walls
that refuse to break
in this untimely egress
will the outside hold
new secrets
or another thankless maze
to be traversed from noon until night
wandering, aimless, through each day?

Time forces the newborn creature
through the exit
a miniscule hole
created slow
wings folded unto body
bursting into summer’s
graceful flow.
